The Flintstones
1994, PG, **1/2
Starring: John Goodman, Rick Moranis, Rosie O’Donnell, Elizabeth Perkins , Kyle MacLachlan, Halle Berry, and Elizabeth Taylor
It’s back to the stone age where rocks and dino abound. I had never seen this film when it came to life; from cartoon to movie, in 1994. There was nothing else I wanted to watch a few weeks ago when I decided to watch it on the Free On-Demand from Comcast; so I was enticed by my boyfriend to watch, and I wasn’t thoroughly disappointed. After all one of the main cartoons early in the am growing up, I was a fan of “The Flintstones.”
It’s the basic scenario, Barney (Moranis) and Fred (Goodman) are pals, but Fred is always trying to kinda one-up Barney, and Barney never realizes it, until it’s too late. The storyline consists around Fred getting a raise at the job to a managerial position at the mining hole; however he soon realizes there is corruption going on with his boss and secretary (Kyle MacLachlan and Halle Berry). They want him to lay off several co-workers they he has worked with for years; otherwise he’s out of his promotion, and friendships will be lost.
The extra money has been great for Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins ) and Fred, and they try to help out Barney and Betty (O’Donnell) with their extra dough, but it still isn’t enough. Trying to make more money, and sacrificing a friend isn’t deep down what Fred wants to do.
We also see how Betty and Barney get their little Bam Bam, and how he and Pebbles (Fred and Wilmas child) progress in the storyline; even though they aren’t the main focus of attention. And the loveable purple pet dinosaur, Dino makes the storyline really come to life, as we all remember his crazy antics like a jumpy, hyper-active pet dog; very cute!
Halle Berry is even in this stone age-animal skin and bone made neck wear clad dress get-up, very sexy role for her – guys will enjoy this! Oh, and the extravagant (and recently passed,) Elizabeth Taylor makes a few cameos as Wilma’s mother, who isn’t so fond of Fred. Yabadaba-dooooo! It’s fun, but only a one-time watcher!
